On Thursday 1st September 2016 over 20 people joined together for a 6k Sponsored Walk in order to raise funds for Eastbourne Foodbank.
The Walkers met at The Bodyclub in the evening where everyone was given the opportunity to a FREE Wellness Healthcheck, meet Jay Kramer, Project Manager from Eastbourne Health Champions where people made a pledge to improve their health and then talk to Marta about joining the East Sussex Credit Union, a not-for-profit savings and loans co-operative.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Pat Hearn started the evening by welcoming and thanking everyone for helping out to such a great cause. Stephen Lloyd then took the walkers out and set the pace for the hike to Holywell Tea Chalet, where fresh fruit and water were provided by Jay and then walked back again.
The walk took approximately 1 hour 30 minutes and it with all of the sponsorship money collected it is hoped that just under £1,000 will be donated to Eastbourne Foodbank.
These Sponsorship Walks will be a regular activity for The Bodyclub and their partners as they are planning their next walk to raise funds for another local charity, Families for Autism. The Sponsored Walk is being supported by other local companies including Helen Owen Marketing Enterprises (HOME) CIC who help unemployed people access free training, Eastbourne Health Champions, whose aim it is to encourage local people lead mentally and physical healthy and active lifestyle, East Sussex Credit Union that help people get out the cycle of debt by turning lenders into savers and Healthy Eastbourne, an initiative by Eastbourne Borough Council.
